A solo exhibition by Nadia Gueddouh
“One day, walking on the beach at Møns Klint, I stumbled upon a stone. Resting in a sea of other stones it appeared. A small depiction of Virgin Mary and the child was lying there, and I picked it up. The stone was heavy. I tried to put it down. Placed it in a hole in the cliff, but it felt wrong. I couldn’t let go yet, the experience was embedded in the stone. Now I carried Mary around. In hand and in body. And she rested alone on my table for a long time, but I needed to share my experience. I gave the stone to Nadia. When I stand in front of the paintings, I have to let go. A motif steps forward but disappears again. The feeling remains. A connection out within the painting and into another side. What I can’t draw out, draws me in. The paintings continuously dissolve themselves, invisible to get a hold of. Placing me where language stops. In a constant movement. At the same time both inwards and outwards towards silence.”
